Joanne Nelson, founder of Wellness Interaction Network in Los Angeles asked me to forward this important message along to the group. DATE; May 8, 1995 FR0M: Kassy Perry 2300 N. Street Sacramento, CA 95818 RE: FDA Drug Lag I am working with a number of voluntary health and provider organizations to identify patients who are willing to talk about the need for FDA reform. Specifically, I am interested in finding patients or family members of patients who are concerned about "drug lag" -- the fact that medications and devices are often available in other countries years before the FDA makes them available in the U.S. Examples are: Cognex -- The Alzheimer's community had to fight to get FDA approval. Imitrex-- A migraine rnedicine that is available in tablet form in Canada, but only in the iniectabIe form in the U.S. Tenidap-- An arthritis medication that is now available in Europe. The patients should be willing to spend two days on Capitol Hill meeting with Congress, testifying at hearings and meeting with FDA officials. As of today, we have no times for these meetings. If you have any questions, please give Kassy Perry a call at (916) 443-3464 or FAX (916) 443-2232. Thank you for your assistance.
