Ron Vetter queried about the adsorbtion data for Sinemet vs Sinemet CR and
also mentioned that some folks are grinding CR tablets for delivery thru a
gastric tube.

The entire principle of a Sinemet CR controlled release tablet is based upon
keeping the table intact so it can slowly dissolve in the GI tract with a
resultant slow adsorbtion of carbidopa and levodopa. The slow adsorbtion is
meant to smoothen and prolong the response to levodopa. Grinding up the CR
tablet destroys its purpose. If there is a need for a gorund up preparation
of levodopa, and I am sure such needs to arise for certain individuals, then
please grind up Sinemet tablets rather than Sinemet CR tablets.

Ron Vetter asked abput data on adsprbion characteristics. There are a
number of technical publications that go into that. There is also a product
monograph that goes into great detail on the adsorbion characteristics of
Sinemet CR that is available to pharmacists and physicians through my
companies Product Information Center. If anyone wants to receive the product
monograph or specific references to published works on adsorbion kinetics,
please contact me directly on Email.
