Aline: If your Dad is going to be in the hospital, have the doctor get him tested for H. Pylori. It can cause all sorts of havoc with the esophagus and digestive tract, making eating an extremely uncomfortable activity (especially meats and/or anything with fats). It's a quick test (less than 5 minutes to a result) and the problem is easily treated (if he has it). Good luck with your Dad... Sharon
