Dear Don: As a fellow pallidotomy receiver I applaud your efforts to keep
the record straight and tell it like it is. My unilateral (right side)
pallidotomy was done in Sweden on May 23, l993. Too bad I couldn't get a
bilateral, but it wasn't being done then and in fact pallidotomies wern't
being done in the states at that time. A bunch of us went to Sweden for the
procedure. Were we the advance guard?

I too had a good result. Of course it would have been perfect with both
sides done as you did. However I would not have joined you skydiving. I put
a small plane into a dive once and that ended any desire to dive me in the
air any way any how.

You are taking four Hydergine (an ergoloid mesylate) tablets a day - what
strength? And why? It is supposed to improve the supply of blood to the
brain which I suppose is o.k., and it might stop a migraine headache, but
what else does it do? Didn't you say some people found it helpful for
restless leg syndrome (RLS)? I wonder why and how? At the moment RLS is a
bigger problem for me than PD. I am fast resembling a zombie from lack of
sleep.

Keep us up to date on your pallidotomy results. It is helpful to those
contemplating the procedure. Sometimes I wonder where we'd be if we hadn't
ressurected pallidotomy. I'd probably be wheelchair bound as I fell a lot
and was a mass of bruises.

Did you meet Moira MacPherson from Halifax two weeks ago? Dr. Iacona did a
successful bilateral pallidotomy and she and Peter and the two boys are some
happy fellas. She is an artist and I'm sure we'll see lots of her stuff now.
