My dad, though significantly more deteriorated from the last time I saw him in February, was able (and anxious) to help around my new house. He fixed my screen door, the bathroom door and a ceiling fan. He has always been a tinkerer and I think it helped his psyche to be able to do these things. He also helped watch the children (ages 7 and 13 months) while my mother and I worked in the garden. We took a couple of small road trips so that he could see the Oregon coast, but otherwise we mostly stayed around the house and sat on the patio. My seven year old daughter wanted desperately to go with Grandpa to the zoo, but he wasn't up to it. His energy level seemed pretty good, but he is quite stooped which makes it difficult to move around (even if you don't have PD). But we did enjoy seeing them. I am kind of sad though, to see my dad like this. So we will savor the time we have with him. Carrie Barrott [log in to unmask] The biggest problem for Parkinson's sufferers is not the disease but the lack of muscle. This is a bigger handicap. We tend to go to places that have wheel chairs available (most large malls and similar places) or using paddle boats or carrige rides (canoes and horse back riding is difficult due to both balance (falling) and physical strength/agility required to use these. The important thing to remember is PD is "life in the slow lane". Have fun!
