I don't believe anyone has mentioned the use of freenets that are
generally available in the U.S., Canada and some other countries.
 
I have been a member of the Detroit Freenet for close to a year,
have been pleased and cannot complain of the cost (no bills).
 
The software is very basic, the reliability is good but there is
little support for any problems one might encounter.
 
I am fortunate that I am also able to connect through my local
library for free although at times, for some technical reasons,
I am unable to get a connection.
