Welcome to Washington DC and the political two-step. The answer you
received was probably written by a $30,000/year spin doctor (oops
legislative aide) and says absolutely nothing. Writing again will only
get a similar response.
 
This is not to discourage you from writing (the more the better), but
unless you are on a first name basis with your senator, chances are
he/she will never see your letter. You will become one more checkmark in
the "constituents who support the Udall Bill" column. Of course, if there
are enough checkmarks in that column the aides will probably advise the
senator to vote for the bill if it ever makes it to the floor.
 
(Although I am now in the information technology field, my first degree
was in government and politics.)
