I have had a similar experience with the guitar. It is easier to do pieces I learned before the onset of PD than it is to do new pieces even though the new ones are technically easier. I don't know why this is, but would hazard a guess that it has to do with the synapses involved in learning motor skills--the pathways are not as easily established.
