There are numerous medications for dealing with auditory, visual, tactile, olfactory, and other hallucinations. Hopefully, the physician is familiar with the many choices, including the newest ones, and, hopefully, the patient can be treated and the hallucinations handled with a small dose of such medications. One of the newer ones used with the elderly is respiridone, which seems to work well with some and poorly with others. Sometimes a severe depression develops and this leads to certain types of hallucinations (primarily auditory), and this would call for a different type of medication.
