FYI Joe Irr, Worldwide Product Manager - the Sinemet Brand, passed along the following information about whether there are problems with the time release properties of Sinemet CR if the tablet is broken in half. "The large Sinemet CR tablet (50/200) is scored so it can be broken into two pieces. If done carefully, the slow release characteristics are retained fairly well. However, the drug might reach peak blood plasma levels a few minutes sooner than with the intact tablet. The small tablet Sinemet CR 25/100 is not scored and should not be broken in half unless you are advised to do so by your physician. Whenever you break any tablet in half, whether it is Sinemet or any other medicine, you will alter the pharmacological effects to some extent. For someone who must be very careful with the amount of drug taken and the rate at which it is absorbed into the blood stream and eventually the brain, my advice is to be very careful when breaking a tablet. Discuss the merits of this sort of activity with your physician when next you meet." - message forwarded by Ken Aidekman while I have your attention. . .
