Hello All!

My name is Mary L. Williams, and I live in southwest Virginia. I decided to
subscribe to this list because my aunt, who is only 54, was recently
diagnosed as having Parkinson's. Needless to say, she is rather distraught
over this, but she is confronting the issue head-on by reading and learning
as much as possible on the subject. I want to help her in this regard by
utilizing the online resources I have at my disposal.

To look at my aunt, one would never know that she has Parkinson's; at this
point, she does not have a tremor, and she is very mobile. For some time
though, she has been experiencing difficulties with the left side of her
body. Going for a walk can be a real chore for her. She has experienced a
diminished sense of smell as well as taste. She has also reported instances
where her brain seems to momentarily shut down and she "forgets" how to
complete the task at hand.

Other than these problems, she functions reasonably well and works at a
full-time job. She has begun taking medication, but often she winds up
feeling nauseous. Her doctor told her that it is sometimes necessary to fine
tune the medication until hitting on the right combination and dosage levels.

My aunt rarely complains, but I know that she is worried about the future.
I'm hoping that information and support derived from this list will help
alleviate her fears somewhat.
