Questions are being raised about the possibility of a new drug for
Parkinson's disease becoming available in the next year or two.

There is a new class of drugs undergoing development. One or two of them are
likely to become available for general use in that time frame. These are
known as COMT Inhibitors and have the generic names of entacapone and
tolcapone. They are meant to be taken in conjunction with Sinemet or
Madopar. The COMT inhibitors are meant to smooth out the beneficial effects
attained from the administration of levodopa by providing better control of
the drug's metabolism.

I think many of us are anxious to find out if this new class of drugs will
help control the symptoms of Parkinson's disease.
