Pyridoxal phosphate is a coenzyme for various decarboxylase enzymes for reactions such as glutamate to GABA, aromatic L-amino acids to amines, and histidine to histamine. It also is a coenzyme for some transamination reactions. The best bet is that it is enhancing the GABA system with some positive effects on other amine neurotransmitters. One telling bit of evidence in this regard is that baboons injected with antibodies to melatonin have many more epileptiform seizures. It's difficult to see how it would have a clear effect on depression one way or the other. It might be expected to have a beneficial effect of sorts on schizophrenia (with added B-6). - paul> Has anyone tried melatonin with B-6? What is the situation of "antibodies to melatonin" in normal persons and we who have PD? Ron,59,dz PD 11 <[log in to unmask]> Ronald Vetter
