Hi all! Just wanted to let you all know the response I received from Representative John Linder, 4th District, Georgia. I sent an e-mail message to him a couple of weeks ago asking for his support of the Morris K. Udall bill. This is the "guts" of his response. "Like you, I believe that federal scientific research funding and medical assistance funding provides a valuable benefit to our communities. However, I believe that America is facing a financial crisis of a magnitude never before seen in this country. The impending financial collapse threatens to destroy the quality of life in this country and erase many of the contributions that your profession has made to America's educational system over the years. If we fail to alter our current federal spending patterns, in just over fifteen years the entire federal revenue stream will be consumed by Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, and interest on the national debt. Not one penny will be available for education, defense, transportation, administration, or public health. For this reason, I strongly support reexamining our nation's spending priorities." Blah, blah, blah...
