Sunday a.m., September 24 found us all up early and eager to get the show on
the road. Kees had ordered a giant tent, just in case, and it was a good
thing too. The morning started out sunny but with cool winds and by 1 p.m.
dark clouds had covered the blue sky, and by 3 p.m. -start time - it was
starting to sprinkle.
The band that Kees used to play trumpet with entertained the crowds, first
outside and then under the 'big top'. They got everyone into fine
walking/running form, so that when I fired the starting pistol 200 or so
walkers/runners took off along the 5 km trail undaunted by blustery wet winds..

Within half an hour, and half way along the trail, it was POURING! and we
were soaked (at least those of us who had neglected to wear raincoats or
tote umbrellas). But you all know us parkies, and how determined we can be!
Then again what's a little (actually a LOT of ) rain in the whole scheme of
things?

When we arrived back at the tent the air soon filled with steam from our wet
clothes and the barbeques. The food was great and everyone mingled,
enjoying the feeling of accomplishment in spite of the turn in the weather.
Al and I talked with one parkinsonian who had ridden 18 km on his bike to
get to the Sponsorwalk, then ran the circuit twice, (10 km), and was waiting
for the rain to let up a bit before hopping on his bike to return home.

Congratulations to Kees, his family, and all those who helped make the first
Parkinson Sponsorwalk in Holland a great success!

Expect great things from these folks next year!!!

We're off to get our wooden shoes tonight, I can't believe we've only one
day left in Holland.
