Research for Change, by Jan Barnsley and Diana Ellis, from the Vancouver Women's Research Collective might counterbalance the dinosaur (Grinnell's Social Work Research and Evaluation). A more modest corrective could be Rubin and Babbie's text (altho that is U.S.) As I understand it, the issues social workers need researched in order to do their work better cannot be addressed very well by "objective" quantifiable methods alone.
