How does that Chinese curse go? May you live in interesting times. Both Anthony and I share a nostalgia for the Parti Quebecois of the seventies: the party of Rene Levesque, Jacques Yvon Morin. They truly had an open vision of a new society that would embrace all Quebecers. They promised to provide good government - and they did - before calling a referendum. Today I have been hearing news commentators claiming that the PQ has improved over the last few years. But they are wrong, perhaps assuming a theory of progress for which there is little evidence. The scenario now is this: Parizeau is going to do the dirty work for a few months, cut/cut/cut, and then Bouchard will come in with clean hands. I'm afraid Russ is right.
