I actually like the list as it is. I may complain about long posts now and
again, but I like to put them on the list as must as anyone. The spamming is
very bothersome. Someplace on the Internet must be a list of list server
addresses. It would be nice to know where this central feed is and have our
list removed. I find that each day as I look through the list of messages, I
must edit out the spams. They can be very long as was yesterdays list of
subjects. I do have a 14.4 modem and highly recommend others to get them
especially if paying for connect time. I know AOL does not charge based on
speed of access. Using a 143.4 modem, I don't recall every being commented
for more than a minute to download the list server daily messages. I might
add that as the speed of the modem increasees so does the communication
between the modems. At 2400 baud each character is transferred and
variified. At 14.4, the file is compressed before transfer and uncompressed
after transfer. This allows the speed of communication to be much faster
than character by character. I am finding that my 14.4 transfers data at
about 28.8 speed if the data were not cmpressed. Anyway, 14.4 modems are
selling under $100 now. If you consider that they should also beable to send
and receive fax, they are a very important part of the home computer.

"I am now the most miserable man living. If what I feel were equally
distributed to the whole human family, there would not be one cheerful face
on the earth. Whether I shall ever be better, I cannot tell; I awfully
forebode I shall not. To remain as I am is impossible. I must die or be
better, it appears to me."
