Shy-Drager Syndrome (sometimes called Multiple System Atrophy) is
discussed in Merck. Like PD it is caused by neural degeneration in
the lower brain, and clinical symptoms are similar, but it is not
confined to the substantia nigra. A principal distinction from PD
is that SDS does not respond to levodopa therapy.
