Joyce, You might be interested in an article I received from a friend in Kansas City. It appeared in the Kansas City Star Oct. 6 and concerned the first patient in the U.S. to receive the implant. It was performed on a 48 year old man from Topeka who improved immediately. The pallidal brain stimulation was performed by Dr. Steven Wilkinson at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Dr. William Koller is the neurologist heading the study of the procedure there. The patient's rigidity was relieved and his movements became more fluid. Doctors don't know how long the benefit will last, but even a year will buy some time. The best part is that the procedure is reversible and extremely safe. You might want to look into this.
