With one week to go until the Parkinson's Unity Walk in New York City things are looking good for an impressive event. Hundreds of walkers have already pre-registered - far more than last year's initial Walk. This Thursday's ceremony proclaiming October to be Parkinson's Awareness Month in New York should boost visibility and attendance. Busses from the suburbs are filling up, but there are still some seats available. Musical entertainment will be part of the closing ceremonies at Grant's Memorial. Speakers who will address the gathering include Emilio Alonso-Mendoza of the National Parkinson's Foundation, Joel Gerstel of the American Parkinson's Disease Foundation, Carole Cassidy of the Parkinson's Institute, Dinah Tottenham Orr of the Parkinson's Disease Foundation and Joan Samuelson of the Parkinson's Action Network. Colorful T-shirts with the Parkinson's Unity Walk logo will be given to walkers who turn in $25 or more at check in on the 15th. PUW pins and stickers will also be part of a goody bag along with information from the endorsing PD organizations. Some refreshments will also be available. If you are planning to come please call in or fax your registration now! Contact Margot Zobel for more information ([log in to unmask]) or Ken Aidekman ([log in to unmask]). See you Sunday!
