A thousand thanks to John Argue for posting the information on blue masking tape stripes. My 84 year old Dad bought an electric scooter a year ago so he could get around the house. Getting started was so difficult without it that he often took 15 minutes to go from the bedroom to the kitchen using his three wheel walker. Anything in his peripheral vision distracted him and he would stop to look. If he sees anything with writing on it, even a sticker in a car window, he stops to read it. When he was stuck, I would take a coin out of my pocket and put it in front of his foot. He would start and go a few steps until he got distracted again. As a result, he had been getting almost no exercise. Every doorway and piece of furniture in his path through the house bears the scars from his crashes on the scooter, and since he can't remember to keep his elbows tucked in, so do his arms which always have a scab for hitting the door frames. Mom is beside herself about the destruction of her furniture and walls. We ordered the blue tape from Ace Hardware and after waiting a couple of weeks for it to arrive, installed it throughout the house a week ago. It was an instant miracle. Dad navigates halls, doorways, the narrow bathroom at full speed and without a single hesitation. What a great idea you had, John. I recommend your solution to anyone with similar problems. Strangely enough, even though the house looks like a blue railroad yard, visitors don't seem to notice (or maybe they are too polite to ask). Fred Kemp ([log in to unmask])
