A while back, there was an interest in finding amplification
devices for those whose voice amplitude had decreased significantly
and who had difficulty being understood.

The few devices that were found, were expensive and bulky to move
around.

I have found parts that can make such a system that is small enough to
clip on clothing, powered by a 9 volt battery or plugged into a wall
outlet.

All of these parts are available at Radio Shack.

The amplified speaker is in a 3" X 3" X 1" plastic case with an on-off
switch/volume control. The amplified speaker uses a 9 volt battery for
portable use or use a 9 volt converter for bedside use. The Radio Shack
part # is 277-1008, $11.99.

The microphone is a lapel mike which can be clipped on the clothing or
pillow. The Radio Shack part # is 33-3003, $34.99.

A belt clip is available to make it possible to attach the small
speaker to the clothing or belt when portable. The Radio Shack part #
is 27-033, 3.99.

In some states, a tax is levied on the telephone bill for the Blind and/or
hearing/speaking impaired. Equipment like this should be eligible for these
programs. Check with your local rehabilitation agency to see what is
available in your area.

This system should work well for those who sleep in different rooms from the
care-giver and give more confidence that their calls for help will be heard.
