For Betti Adams

I also receive Consumers Reports and the November issue is very interesting.
By the way, NADH is Q1 not Q10. I would like to hear from anyone who has
used "CO ENZYME Q 10."

The use of ginger for nausea goes back a long way. Ginger is known to empty
the stomach quicker than normal. nausea generated in the stomach may be
reduced by taking ginger. Drugs that interfere in the management of PD and
should be avoided are compazine, reglan and torecan. These work on the
nausea center in the brain by depleting dopamine. These drugs can have a
profound negative affect on PD and should be avoided. On the other hand,
ginger, can be used with Sinemet to speed stomach emptying and thus speed the
process of getting Levodopa into the intestine and absorbed into the blood
-- speeding its way to the brain. I believe Tony Schoonenberg documented "a
Sinemet HighBall" sometime ago using ginger.

I might remind readers that almost all of the anti-Parkinson drugs list
nausea as an adverse side effect. In Sinemet the smaller number is the mg of
carbidopa in Sinemet. Carbidopa is known to reduce nausea caused by
levodopa. In previous discussions the use of a drug named LODOSYN has been
suggested for those patients getting nausea on the first Sinemet CR in the
morning. Lodosyn is free from you neurologist and is nothing more than 25 mg
of carbidopa.

In the Consumers Report was a more interesting herb that was on its list of
"helpful herbs." The herb was Ginkgo biloba. Quoting from the article on
page 701:, "Used for circulation. Enhances blood flow to the brain,
according to a review of several published studies. For the elderly, that
supposedly can improve concentration and memory, absent-mindedness, headaches
and tinnitus, a ringing in the ears. May also aid circulation to legs, to
relieve painful cramps." They say the right words that perk my interest. How
well it does this I will leave up to the more adventurous members of this
group.
