Dear Marc-- the books say that PD is not "fatal"--by which they seem to mean that PD *itself* ,unlike a heart attack, won't kill us. However, as everyone dies sometime, that's rather small comfort--:-( What seems to happen is that the *complications* of PD can be fatal. These result from the effects of the disease on the body, such as pneumonia from aspiration, impaction in the colon, swallowing problems,etc. That's a brief answer to a big question---but look how many PD folks are still alive and kicking!
