Very good news from your report. My wife is one of the Parkinson's patients
participating in the double-blind, fetal tissue implant study which you folks
are funding and which you may be one of the peer reviewers on this grant.
perhaps you'd like to comment on this study. Alice, my wife, had implant
surgery two weeks ago in denver and went through it in fine style so now she
will be waiting from six weeks to a year to see if it helps; and, of course,
to see if it works. She is one of 12 whohave had the surgery; and, those in
the study emphasize, that contrary to information published in the july, 1995
issue of Discover magazine, the program is not closed; The Neurological
Institute at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital says that there are still
openings for 18 more Parkinsons patients in this study. If anyone wants more
detail, contact direct to the center at 212 305 5277 or fax 212 305 3350; to
dr. stanley fahn, who is in charge of the study. So far there have been no
adverse effects among the 12 persons receiving the surgery.
