>A friend of mine had a thalliotomy last Tuesday and is had great relief
>from tremor and rigidity but is now having a lot of pain in the ankle
>on the affected side. There does not appear to be any bruising or
>swelling that would explain this. Any theories out there?

According to the latest studies on thalamotomy, there is about a 25%
complication factor immediately following the procedure. Time seems to be
the best healer...most resolve themselves after a while.

Also when the tremor or tremors on the affected side are suppressed by the
procedure, tremors appear on the other side of a lesser intensity. In the
latest study, the secondary tremor was suppressed also by another lesion.
The location of the secondary tremors thalmic location was easier to find
through microelectrode recording after the main tremor was suppressed.

Tell you friend to hang in there....it will probably all work out.
