Dear Mark,
I don't claim to be an expert on Parkinson's Disease but having the disease
for the last 30 years I hope that I have learned something. I was diagnosed
at age 21 and I am now 51.
First of all Parkinson's is different in every case and what woks for one may
not apply for another but there are some basic things that I think can be of
help to you and your mother. Your mother is only 57 years old and there is
no reason for her to give up now, Parkinson's Disease is not the end of the
world. She has many years ahead of he.!! Getting as much information on the
subject can be a lifesafver. I would like to suggest reading the book
written by Sidney Dorros , "Parkinson's : A Patient's View". There are
others that are good but I found that Sid's book was more helpful than some
of the others . Find a good doctor preferably a Neurologist or Movemment
Disorder Specialist and make shure that your mother feels comfortable with
him or her.. Get her involved in a support group but only when she is
ready.
