---------- Forwarded message ---------- Dear Pregnant Parky I can give yousome information and advice based on my experience of 17 and 12 years ago! My first son was born by Cesaerean section (much to my dismay) and one month premature. So, typical Leo, because he would not lower his head and get into position, he dodged the dents and pressures of the normal warriors and had the smoothest roundest head.but not to digress, I was 39and he was born Aug 8th '78. I had not the faintest symptom of Parkinsons at that time.but ther was considerable stress conected with his birth, the worst was seeing my father collapse in front ofmy hospital bed on his first visit- it was his 2nd stroke (1s in 1968). Kelvin wasa normal healthy breast fed baby and because I was running a small roadhouse theatre at that time he spent most ofhis first year in a snugglie,. On his first birthday, wwe were camping at beautiful lake near Vancouver. I was walking by myself and began to realise thatmy left arm did not swing automatically, I had to concentrate to make it work. Parkinsons was diagnosed a year later.Aug80. When I became pregnant again I was taking Sinemet 100/25 3per day and Ammantadine 100 2per day. The advice of my neurologist was to continue Sinemet but phase out the Amantadine which I did. It was late summer 1982 and Cameron was due in March'83. I spent a great deal of time on tbe phone that winter trying to find someone with the same problem or better still the answer, I had to know whether it was safe to breast feed while taking Sinemet. The only other person I heard of who was under 45 and pregnant and had Parkinsons was in the Australian outback, (that is another story!) After several long conversations with my GP and my Specialist it seemed thatthere was little choice. Sinemet would almost certainly contaminate breast milk. so I submitted to the misery of buying bottlesand all that stuff. My second son is the first registered Parkinsonian birth in Canada He is as healthy and as'normal' as"normal" can be!..when you are a twelve year old ! So start asking if any one knows any other Pregnant Parkies and get their advice, but dont ignore your own instincts Best wishes and good luck! And keep in touch, Moira M.
