Dear Everyone,
It is time to post this alert for anyone taking Eldepryl. If you
are ever hospitalized you will be asked to identify drugs that you are
allergic to. Please be sure to tell the person taking your history that
you may not take Demerol (Meperidine). Even if you have never taken this
drug, you should be aware that it is contra-indicated for those on
Eldepryl, and indeed, could be deadly.
Most of us trust the medical profession to know about
incompatible medication, however it has been my experience as a nurse
that this one is not commonly identified. No one that I work with on my
unit knew about it. So please--take the responsibility to insure that
everyone understands that Demerol is a drug you cannot have if you are
taking Eldepryl.
