Just today reveived via snail mail the Cleveland Clinic Foundation
publication entitled PATIENT UPDATE in which they announce:
"A new surgery is being performed at the Cleveland Clinic to reduce many
of the crippling effects of Parkinson's disease. The procedure, called a
pallidotomy, interrupts a pathway in the brain that is overactive in
Parkinson's disease. Most patients show some improvement and many
experience significant improvement following surgery. An important
aspect of pallidotomy surgery is having a surgeon experienced in
stereotactic procedures and a neurologist who specializes in treatment of
Parkinson's disease. To make an appointment, please call 216/444-5559."

It is unfortunate that this announcement does not indicate how many of
these procedures have been already performed at Cleveland Clinic. But,
the above phone number should give those interested a place to start
their inquiries.
