One suggestion would be to get both your state senator and department of
insurance involved. The people in my state, NJ, have done that and now, for
one thing, HMO's must permit a mother and new born baby to stay at least 48
hours in the hospital. They had been insisting they be kicked out after 24
hours. Of course, you need something quicker than legislation, but the state
policians can and should be brought into your dilemma right away because I
think they could do you and your wife some good. I would call them right now
and get fax numbers or e-mail addresses so you can send them a summary of the
situation. You might also want to include your Congressperson. They all
love this stuff.
