=09Director of the McLuhan Program in Culture and Technology
=09University of Toronto
 
This conference will explore the general theme of "The Middle Ages in=20
Contemporary Popular Culture." This theme is intended to be as open-ended=
=20
as possible and will be approached from many directions. Topics include,=20
but are not limited to:
 
*Marketing the Middle Ages in music (Gregorian chant, Hildegard of=20
Bingen), novels, movies,TV series, video games and CD-ROM
*New Millenarianisms, Satanic cults and witchcraft
*The Middle Ages in nationalist ideologies
*The Middle Ages as an attraction for tourists: visits to archeological=20
sites, medieval fairs, feasts and pageants.
 
A number of special cultural events are also planned, including musical=20
performances, films, a display of books, videos and interactive=20
multimedia products.
