The December Central Ohio Parkinson Society newsletter mentions group speech therapy sessions at the Columbus Speech & Hearing Center. "These sessions are offered without charge to all PD patients by the Society because we believe so strongly in their quality and value to you. It is never too early for a Parkinson patient to begin to concentrate on good speech and communication habits nor too late to seek help." For more info: (614) 688-4051. Has anyone heard of other 'free' group sessions? Speech therapy is under-rated in importance. When someone is reluctant to communicate they may retreat from social intercourse. Friends and acquaintances may turn away out of frustration which can lead to a negative sense of self worth. The downward spiral continues with further isolation and increased depression. Fortunately, for many of us, computer keyboards take up some of the slack. Nonetheless, speech therapy deserves more attention.
