Sounds like a good idea. Am I correct in understanding that all discussion
would take place on the original PD list and the new one would be solely for
long, informative messages?
If so, I see a possible lag time in discussing the long posts. What about a
short (5-6 lines?) description sent to the PD discussion list when a long
article is posted to the other one, either by the original poster or by the
person maintaining the "Contrib list"? (would depend on volume of posts, I
assume?)

I am on several lists which have similar divisions, and it *is* convenient
to see a listing of new "informative" posts with directions on how to
retrieve each one. That way, a person need only retrieve the posts they are
interested in without having to remember where they hid the directions on
how to do it.

In defense of AOL, I have been using flash sessions on AOL for downloading
messages and uploading replies. I used, at _most_, ten minutes a day doing
so, and had no problems. Just lucky, I guess :)
