Nigel Cockle posted a hypothesis that those prone to develop PD react less to nicotine and find it easier to give up the smoking habit. I was a heavy smoker who like W.C. Fields (with drinking) found it easy to give up; I did it hundreds of times. The last time was in 1961. (I did it, but it was not easy.)
