Dan:

I have recently joined the listserv for my mother, and one of her biggest
problems is insomnia. I did a search on the word "insomnia" and asked for an
index of all item numbers - there were 115 as of 1/13/96. I then printed
some, which may be useful to other newer members with questions.

Items 319, 2462, 2646, 3958, 4043 are about melantonin

Items 4796, 7385, 7388, 7394 are about Ambien (which made my mom jumpier than
ever)

Item 7081 is a long post about insomnia in general

Item 1896 recommends Benadryl

Item 1386 is about herbs instead of estrogen replacement therapy for insomnia
as a symptom of menopause (not for your dad(!) but I'm also sending a copy of
this e-mail to the listserv)

Other articles talked about restless leg syndrome and slippery linens. I
didn't serach the archives for those keywords, though.

To get the articles about melatonin, for instance, you would send the
following mail to:
 [log in to unmask]

//DBlook   JOB   Echo=No
Database Search DD=Rules
//Rules DD *
select * in parkinsn
print all 319  2462  2646  3958  4043

Notes: there are 3 spaces before and after JOB; check your spelling; and
leave spaces between item numbers and before asterisks. If what you request
is more than 700 lines, the message back will complain and not give you those
articles which ran over the limit.

To do your own search, on whatever phrase you want, replace the asterisk in
the "select" line with your phrase, no quotes, and replace the "print all"
line with the word "index", no quotes.

A complete explanation of how to find info in the archives was posted by John
Cottingham <[log in to unmask]> on 1/1/96.

I hope this helps - share any useful index numbers with us! There's not much
3 AM organizing, cleaning, or reading left to be done in my mom's house ...!
Good luck!
