I don't know if this will help, but here are my settings and they seem to
work for me. I list the menu - line item and follow it with those lines I
have active or checked. This is for my PC clone runing AOL 2.5 using a 28.8
baud modem. There is some concern about automatic downloading of mail files.
I have never had a problem with this option. The only files that are
downloaded by the mail are the PD List Service daily indexed list. This file
is downloaded into directory c:\aol25\download and is named parkinsn.txt.
This file is usually too large to use "notepad" for viewing. The file may
be viewed by "write" or other word processor or EDIT in dos shell or listers
that can be downloaded from software on AOL.

Start AOL and look under the following menus

Mail - Flash sessions
      X Retrieve unread mail
           X .... and attached files
      X Send outgoing mail
      X Download selected files
Select Names Icon (this is my aol name and password *...*)
           X Bonander ********
Scheduled flash sessions Icon (none - I do not use this)
Members - Set Preferences
        General Icon
             When possible display test LARGE
Chat Icon (nothing checked as I do not use chat rooms)
Passwords Icon (did this before in flash sessions)
        Grahpics Icon
X Display image files on download
              JPEG compression qualify 100 %
              Set color mode Icon
                     X Detect automatically
         Download Icon
X Display image files on download
X Retain information about last 99 downloads
          Mail Icon
X (all five listed options are checked)
          WWW Preferences Icon
               X Compressed Graphics
               X Don't show graphics at 2400 bps
               X Show current location
               X Show destination of hyperlinks
           Personal Filing Cabinet Icon
X Confirm before deleting single files
X Confirm before deleting multiple files

I hope this helps someone.

Regards,
Alan
