I am not qualified to respond about medication and drugs. PD
seems to vary significantly from individual to individual. For instance, my
wife (62.5 & 6) takes three different kinds of Sinemet every 3.5 hrs.
(25/100, 10/100, and CR) on empty stomach, followed by Permax (3 times) with
food no less than 1/2 hr. later. She also takes other drugs, and suffers
from insomnia, constipation, Meniere, etc. and is not always in full control.
The important thing is to get a competent doctor who is well acquainted with
PD, that you can trust. Our neurologist believes in minimal dosage of
medication just enough to function to minimize overdosing and dyskenesia.
PD at this juncture can be treated and eased, but not healed.
Yet, we do the best we can,...and 'gather ye rosebuds while ye may'. After
having a colon resection last week, my wife (and I) are still planning to
take a ten day cruise next week, with the surgeon's and neurologist's
blessing. Michel Margosis
