PARKINSON'S SATELLITE SYMPOSIUM PLANNED FOR MARCH 7th

January 29, 1996

Dear Editor:

Enclosed is a brief news article that we hope you'll run in
the upcoming issue of your newsletter or distribute to members
in other ways. The article highlights a nationwide symposium for
Parkinson's patients and their caregivers that is being held
again this year on March 7th, called "Taking Control of Parkinson's
Disease" Second National Satellite Symposium.

Last year this event, which was held during National Parkinson's
Disease Awareness Month, linked 6,000 patients and caregivers
across the country. It was so popular that 99% of attendees said
they would attend another similar symposium.

Because of this overwhelming interest, Somerset Pharmaceuticals
is sponsoring, under an educational grant, a similar program this
year. The program will be broadcast live on March 7th from 3-5 p.m.
Eastern Standard Time from Keystone, Colorado directly following
the 9th Annual Neurodegenerative Disorders Symposium Available to
any PD group across the country that arranges to receive the
satellite feed, it will offer an invaluable opportunity for your
readers to learn about the most recent scientific breakthroughs
as well as current and potential treatment strategies.

We're tremendously excited about this symposium and hope you
will show your support by sharing this information with your readers.

We'd also like to take this opportunity to encourage you to set up
your own local broadcast. As the article explains, you'll receive
guidance every step of the way. If you are unable to sponsor a
meeting, we ask that you pass this information on to others in
your community who might be interested in doing so. For more
information please feel free to contact the "Taking Control of
Parkinson's Disease" Hotline at (212) 880-5336.

We look forward to your participation and thank you for your support
for what promises to he another outstanding educational program for
the PD community.

Sincerely,

Sandra Perez
Associate

Local viewings to be held across the country.
Attend one or hold your own!

If you were one of the 6,000 Patients and caregivers who
participated in last year's "Taking Control of Parkinson's
Disease," the interactive nationwide symposium that linked
patients and caregivers by satellite with leading researchers
and physicians, here's your chance to got involved again.
For those of you who weren't able to make it, welcome aboard!

Based on the overwhelming success of last year's satellite
symposium, which was held during National Parkinson's Disease
Awareness Month, Somerset Pharmaceuticals is sponsoring,
under a educational grant, a similar event this year on Thursday,
March 7th from 3-5 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The program will
be broadcast live from Keystone, Colorado -- highlighting the
9th Annual Neurodegenerative Disorders Symposium hold earlier
that week. The satellite connection will be available to all
PD groups across the country who arrange to receive or "pull
down" the satellite feed.

"We are very excited that this outstanding educational program
is being offered again this year," said [name), executive
director of the [local] chapter. "The symposium will provide
an invaluable opportunity for us to learn about the most recent
scientific breakthroughs in Parkinson's as well as current and
potential treatment strategies."

Coinciding with a meeting of America's top PD experts, the
symposium will feature noted experts in Parkinson's disease
including Dr. Olanow, from Mt. Sinai Medical Center in New York.
Along with presentations on research advances and newer therapies,
education and support programs will be discussed.

For information on groups in the [town] area that are sponsoring a
symposium broadcast, call (newsletter number]. (EDITOR: If your group is
sponsoring a meeting, insert location, contact name and number here.

If you are interested in holding your own meeting you should know
that it's much easier than you think. In fact, last year, a number
of PD groups picked up the satellite signal on their own.

This year's seminar will be broadcast on both C and Ku Band satellites
which can received by both home and commercial systems. The C Band
satellite that will carry the program will be Telstar 401, transponder 17.
The Ku band satellite that will simulcast the program will be Galaxy K7,
transponder 4. The chiron for the correct transponder will say, "Taking
Control of Parkinson's Disease" Second National Satellite Symposium.

Many hospitals have C and/or Ku downlink facilities as well as many
commercial establishments that would love to have the business of the PD
community.

A booklet is available by calling the Hot Line giving suggestions on
establishing a plan for the meeting. Call next week to receive your
group's instructions.

                          Editorial:

Last year, the 'rules' for being one of the few favored sites to receive
permission to downlink the seminar prevented over 99% of the Parkinson
community from viewing the event. Exclusion, created hard feelings among
the members of this list who were not affiliated with the favored
co-sponsor.

This is a new year! All of the groups are invited to participate in
downlinking and PROMOTING this event.... Canada, Central America and sites
in South America who can receive the satellites are all invited to promote
and gather groups to view this event.

Time is of the essence! Program booklets need to be ordered next week,
and arrangements have to be made for facilities to host the event locally.
If your newsletter has already be sent for this month, it is worthwhile
to create a supplemental newsletter to arrive a week or two before March
7. Also create a news release for your local newspapers which sometimes
require a two week notice.

Once you have everything under control, notify the list that you are
hosting the downlinking of the program.
