            Edwin Partridge replies ---

As I understand it, the HCFA reached its decision because anecdotal
evidence only is available to support the view that a pallidotomy is
effective. How much anecdotal evidence does it require in place of
clinical evidence to be convincing?

Everyone who has had a pallidotomy, or a companion, must write a letter
like Mr Martone's.

Consider that since Medicare has stopped reimbursing for pallidotomies,
this has diminished the argument that passage of the Udall bill will
ultimately lessen the cost of Parkinson's to the federal government.
This is important to all of us, even to those who might never need a
pallidotomy.
