Submerged under work waves, I surface briefly to say that pragmatism is important in records research. MSS are legion; publication of complete MSS is impossible, for most researchers. Some kind of selection process is inevitable--with sufficient information given about the sources of the items selected that those who wish to explore the contexts can do so. Anne Lancashire.
