Dear members of the discussion group: I am new to the list and am here on behalf of my wife (Johanna Humphrey, age 60). She has had "parkinsonism" since 1990; her symptoms are extreme rigidity, immobility, and imbalance. She has not been ambulatory for over a year, and requires attendance from myself and a nursing assistant for all personal activities. Recently Johanna's neurologist suggested that we investigate experimental research programs, since drug therapy has been pretty ineffective. But he refused to give any details of what he had in mind. I wonder if Pallidotomy would be appropriate for her, and I'd love to hear what any of you have to say about this. Does anyone know where this procedure could be performed in the Washington, DC area? Or how I could find out? Will Medicare cover the expense? Your thoughts will be most welcome on this or related issues. Porter Humphrey ([log in to unmask]) Bethesda, Maryland
