Several weeks there were postings by several parkies about
their overwhelming need to sleep and found themselves falling
asleep while driving. I am sad to report that a member of our
support group, who was also having the same problem with
sleepiness while driving, was killed in an auto accident when
his car left the road and hit a culvert. The exact cause of
the accident at this time is unknown but you have to wonder if
he wasn't asleep at the time when the car left the road.

I talked with another member of our group who also mentioned that
at one time he had the same problem.....but with the passage of
time this problem no longer bothers him.

Another member of our group, David Robertson, also at one time was
plagued with sleepy driving. He blames parlodel for the sleepiness
which went away when he stopped taking that medicine. David is
still in the process of getting his home computer hitched up so
he can join the parkinsn network again. In the meantime he
said I can post this message from him:1. If you're sleepy pull off
the road (way off) and SLEEP. 2. If you can't get off the road
and sleep David found that if he crossed his hands on the steering
wheel there was a less tendency to fall asleep and the car would
steer straight ahead rather than drifting to one side and off
the road. (In other words, he drove cross handed.)

Please, everyone, be careful. Margaret Mates
