As the coordinator for NYU's pallidotomy program, I advise all patients to call their insurance carrier BEFORE the procedure. If (and it happens frequently) the patient is informed that the procedure is ? experimental, I get a fax number and bombard the insurance company with approximately 50 pages of reprints from various neurosurgery journals. I also inform them that since we have performed over 100 pallidotomies, it is obviously NOT experimental. All my "Pals" have been approved. I hope this helps. Anne O'Sullivan
