Thought I better pass along some idea of what the theme is for next year's conference. It may be an intertextual reference to Nike's famous "Just do it" ad campaigns or it may not, but the theme is "Just Teaching, Just WRiting: Reflection and Responsibility". The point is for us as teachers and as researchers to not succumb to postmodern malaise but to find ways of teaching literacy that are informed by fairness and to encourage ways to encourage students to write in ways that are ethically responsible (this is a paraphrase from the call). The call asks for: - new models of prof. responsibility, personal reflection, social action - additional voices (culturally, socially, historically varied) - new texts - new media - innovative classroom practices - "robust" reflection (now there's an Inkshed strength!) So, there you have it. No postmodern malaise--Just do it! Roger Graves
