Cheryl and Bob--
Cheryl, many thanks for your note (others, please see below for the history
on the conversation) about Canadians and copies of the program book. It
sounds to me as if the incident with Anthony Pare (at least the part about
charging him $5.00) was more of an isolated situation, and this is a
relief. But the fact that we can't mail the program book to Canadians due
to the short length of time between printing and the conference, convinces
me of the importance of putting the program on-line. And so I'd really
like to come up with a process that would allow us to get the program
online in a timely fashion so that all members could access it.
It is also important, however, to make sure that such a process is
reasonable and workable from the Headquarter staff's perspective if it is
to happen smoothly, or, indeed, happen at all! Thus, I'm pleased as can be
to have Bob involved in this conversation so that he can give us the
benefit of his experience when he returns from his current road trip.
So, what do you folks think of the following process to accomplish this
goal? Cheryl sends Eric and/or Marcy the program online when she sends it
to the production folks. Eric and/or Marcy posts it online with a big
disclaimer that says some thing like "This is a preliminary program ONLY.
It has not been proofed and thus does not represent the final version.
Please contact Cheryl Cannon Shaw at XXX_XXX_XXXX with any errors that you
spot in this preliminary program. This program will be updated when the
final proofing of the program is completed." Then, when we finish proofing
the program book, we send Eric and/or Marcy an updated copy of the program
with errors corrected--electronically, of course, to speed things up.
Eric/Marcy then posts it with a new notice about this being the final
program at that point, inviting any corrections to be sent to Cheryl (or
someone else who is appropriate) for the addendum. Meanwhile, in all
letters to the membership about the conference process, Cheryl/Cindy
mentions the fact that the program book (or some version of it) is online
at the website and lists that site's address.
Does that work at all? Please let me know what you all think.
