Freeman Interview: Installment 3 WHAT WAS THE TIMING RELATIVE TO STOPPING THE SUN CHLORELLA? The symptoms started returning about 4 weeks after I stopped the Sun Chlorella. I man in Marina Del Rey started having the same symptoms. We sat down and went over our lists and realized that Sun Chlorella was the only thing missing from both our lists. I started taking it again and within 24 hours the tremors stopped. He started the Sun Chlorella and slept through the night without a tremor. It's that quick. ARE OTHERS GETTING THE SAME RESULTS? Yes. ARE YOU SEEING DIFFERENCES IN HOW PEOPLE RESPOND? Some respond rapidly; others take longer, but everyone has had their symptoms stabilize. That's 100%. From there, they react differently, depending on the length of time they've had PD. how long they've been taking Sinemet, the age, and their general health. EVERY SINGLE PERSON HAS GOTTEN BETTER TO SOME DEGREE. But this is not an instant bullet. It's a long, slow recovery consisting of small improvements that are easy to miss if you don't keep a journal. HOW MANY HAVE SWITCHED FROM ELDEPRYL TO THE LIQUID DEPRENYL? All. SO THE LIQUID DEPRENYL IS THE FIRST STEP? It's the foundation of the program - absolutely necessary. I heard from a man this morning who was out of it when he started. His wife told me she cannot believe how creative he is. Seven years ago he couldn't have done what he's doing now. She's overwhelmed with his improvement. HOW MANY HAVE WITHDRAWN FROM SINEMET? Completely? YES. Not many. Every single person has cut down dramatically, but as far as I know I'm the first to withdraw from Sinemet completely. I started a year before anyone else started trying it. THAT WAS '92 OR '93? I started in '92. I think the next person started in late '93. Some have succeeded; most are still trying. One of the big issues is how long they've been taking Sinemet. Those taking it for a shor time find it easier; those taking it a long time find it very difficult. BUT LONG-TERM USERS ARE STILL REDUCING SLOWLY? Yes. WHAT DO YOU CONSIDER LONG TERM? 5 or 6 years. HOW LONG WERE YOU ON SINEMET? Since 1989. THREE, FOUR YEARS? Four years, yes that's right. I was taking quite a bit when my symptoms were getting so bad. The bigger the dose, the longer it's going to take to get off and the worse your withdrawal symptoms are going to be. HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE TKAING PYCNOGENOL? About 300, all doing exactly what I am. WHAT ABOUT ENADA (Reduced nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADH)? Enada is something new I've been trying, but I stopped taking it because I thought it mgith be causing tremors. I haven't gone back to it yet. HOW MANY MONTHS WERE YOU TAKING IT? 2 months and it did one thing: removed the residual stiffness in my fingetrs of my right hand. Stiffness has not returned. HOW MANY OTHERS HAVE TRIED ENADA? To my knowledge, only 1 other, and he is still on it. It helps him get on in the morning. HAVE YOU HAD MUCH SUPPORT FTOM THE MEDICAL PROFESSION? Absolutely none, even from doctors who see me every day. HOW MUCH SUPPORT ARE YOU GETTING FROM PARKINSON PATIENTS AND FAMILY MEMBERS? They send me incredible letters. They're overwhelmed that they're getting better. The liquid deprenyl does one other thing: it clears up senility within days. I know an elderly actress withh PD who was getting senile. Within 3 days of liquid deprenyl citrate her senility lifted. She read for a part and got it and she's been traveling and making movies again. When she traveled she went back on Eldepryl for convenience and all her problems returned. When she went back to liquid deprenyl citrate, her mind cleared up again. HOW MANY OTHERS SWITCHED BACK? I don't know, but doctors say there's no difference between deprenyl and Eldepryl, but there's a tremendous difference in the way our body uses it. SO DOCTORS ADVISE THEIR PATIENTS TO SWITCH (to Eldepryl) BUT THEY WON'T DO IT? Very few have. WHAT ABOUT SUPPORT GROUPS? I've only spoken to groups twice because I'm overwhelmed with telephone calls for weeks. It's more than I can handle. WHAT ABOUT MEDIA ATTENTION? None whatsover. ARE YOU AFRAID DOING INMTERVIEWS WILL BURY YOU IN PHONE CALLS AGAIN? No, word needs to get out. The problem is availability of the liquid deprenyl citrate. Because the FDA is blocking its approval and preventing its availability in the U.S., patients have to get it through Mexico. Doctors and patients are worried about this. DO YOU ADVISE STOCKING UP IN THE FREEZER? I don't advise anything. When people ask, I tell them to send me a stamped, self-addressed envelope for the list of supplements. I tell them to do the program under a doctor's supervision. I tell them that this is what I've done to get better. If they want to follow it, it's up to them. HAVE YOU TRIED ANY POLITICAL ACTIVISM? To a man, the senators working on health bills forwarded my letters to Diane Feinstein. NOT FENSTEIN. Yes. Every one. And she in turn went to tje FDA legal counsel. THAT'S LUDICROUS. The last response was from Henry Waxman who chastised me for going to the senators from other states instead of California first. He has taken this under advisement. The letter from Feinstein didn't mention Discovery (Discovery Experimental & Development, Inc., developers of high purity liquid deprenyl citrate) but the FDA spoke about a contaminated product. They appended copies of letters from Discovery asking gfor ID numbers so it appears that Discovery is responsible for the contamination. Really sleazy. HOW EFFECTIVE HAS THE PROGRAM BEEN ON AN ONGOING CONTINUOUS BASIS? DO YOU EVER HAVE TO REDESIGN YOUR PROGRAM? Oh yes. Small problems crop up, but overall my condition continually improves. I am better now than six months ago, and better than six months before that. It's a very, very slow program. I think brain cells are being revived. Makes of liquid deprenyl citrate say it's not possible, but it must be. I do believe with all my heart that it is either reviving dormant cells or growing new ones. I also think PD is not just a brain problem; I believe the entire body is affected. That's why you have to treat it with antioxodamts/ A UCLA study found Sinemet actually causes dopamine-producing brain ceslls to become toxic and die. They say it works for about 5 years and thdn stops, but that's not what's happening. It's killing off the dopamine-producing cells in the brain. The researchers that developed ENADA (Birkmayer, et al) state quite clearly that Sinemet does damage brain cells. IS THERE SOMETHING ELSE YOU'D LIKE TO ADD? If you want to try this, you have to stick to it or it won't work. It requires diligence and takes a lot of time. You have to count your tablets in the morning and stick to it. So far everybody on the program has gotten better. It has stopped the progression of the disease and even reversed it. If we can influence the political apparatus to do something about this and get the FDA to approve the liquid deprenyl, we will all be in great shape and doctors can swit their patients to a program that works. WELL, WE'LL SEE ABOUT DOING ALL THAT. That would be sensational because this program does work. I'm living proof. When I walk into a room today, my head is high, my back is straight, my step is firm and brisk, my arms swing, and best of all, I smile. ANNETTA, THANK YOU. The End. Please excuse my typos. My program doesn't edit.
