Hi folks, Has anybody come across any sort of interaction or experience of anti-biotics with PD? For the last 2 years I have been taking one 250mg dose of AMPICILLIN last thing each night for 100 days then then switching to Nitrofurantoin for the next 100 days. Reason was that I lost one kidney 22 years ago and was told to drink plenty of fluids. About 4 years ago I started being troubled with recurrent bladder infections because I was found to be failing to empty my bladder completely and retaining about 100ml. The medical theory was that I had overdone the fluids and stretched the bladder thus losing it's elasticity. I was put on one low dose anti-biotic nightly, and since then have had no infections. Probably because I was then able to reduce fluid intake, my retention problem has been reduced to about 50ml. The reason I am bringing up the subject up is that I have struggled lately having come off Eldepryl, but have noticed an apparent gradual but distinct IMPROVEMENT over the last few days since switching from Ampicillin at the end of the 100 day period. I have kept test records of my hand writing each night before retiring and the improvement is clear AND progressive. It coincides perfectly with ceasing the ampicillin. Ok, I also increased my sinemet dose by taking one half sinemet CR at lunchtime in addition to a full tablet at 8am and 5pm but this was BEFORE I came off ampicillin, and the only affect I could see there was that it helped with the midday off period. I would not have expected the half tablet at midday to affect my writing at midnight when I retire. I have also just come to the end of my first months trial of CoQ10 (3 times 10mg per day). It MAY be having a beneficial affect on energy levels but can't be 100% sure. The improvement since coming off ampicillin is however CERTAIN. Not only because of general improvement of all symptoms but because of several examples of steadily improving writing. Food for thought? I shall observe and come back to you to report progress but in the meanwhile is there anybody with own thoughts or experiences about this ? Stay cheerful folks, it is pouring with rain here in Leeds but we need the rain. Ernie Peters ([log in to unmask])
