MAO-I drugs, normally prescribed for depression, can't be used by patients
on levodopa (e.g., Sinemet) because the combination possibly can provoke
a heart attack or cerebral hemorrhage. The one exception, selegiline
(Eldepryl) is safe to use because its effect is confined to MAO-B, an
enzyme that appears only in the brain, and not at sites elsewhere that
are subject to the danger. For authoritative discussion consult
